On July 25th, the League of Historical Cities officially announced that Tainan has become on of the three new members of the league in 2012, and Tainan is also the first city of Taiwan to join the league. According to Mayor Lai, Tainan City can be one of the members in the League of Historical Cities is because we have been benefited from the abundant cultural resources which were brought to the city by amalgamating Tainan city and Tainan country not long ago; he will make sure that Tainan will fulfill the responsibility of the member cities to promote cultural exchange and experience sharing between the historical cities of the world.
The League of Historical Cities was initiated by Tokyo, Japan; it’s composed of important historical cities in the world. There are 95 member cities from 59 countries. Joining the league not only significantly enhance Tainan’s international visibility but also links the city to the international community.
It is the community’s expectations for Tainan to be a member in the League of Historical Cities; it not only can verified Tainan as a historical city of the international brand, we can also connect with the other 94 members to have more exchanges on subjects like preservation of monuments and cultural tourism. The members in the league are increasing every year and that will definitely make the activities in the future more rich and diverse. To be part of the League of Historical Cities will increase the opportunities for the citizens of Tainan or even Taiwan to participate in exchanges of international academics.
